Eto ang Kwentong DBS Ko – SP Gazmen

I never considered myself a blogger. Back in 2009, I used Blogspot as a personal diary—a safe, private space to express my thoughts. I reviewed the shoes and bags I bought on eBay, documented my daily activities especially I was an OFW at that time, shared opinions on boyband music and books, and wrote about current issues. No one else could see it because I never mentioned about it and never shared the link.

Fast forward to 2015, I got a slot for the launch of the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf planner in SM Lanang. I was so happy and felt honored to be invited from a known brand. There at the event, I met the members of the Davao Bloggers Society (DBS). They were such an inspiration because they were recognized as Davao City’s influencers. I wanted to be part of the group, even though I doubted my abilities. They all looked experienced and best in their craft.

I decided to try. With little expectations, I inquired and complied the membership requirements, submitted my blog link, and paid the membership fee. To my surprise, I was accepted! I was officially a part of DBS in early 2016. Although I didn’t know anyone in the group, I was determined to make the most of the opportunity.

My first event was the opening of a Chinese food stall in GMall Davao. I meet fellow bloggers and we were treated with lots of food. It was a great experience that led to more and more events. Over the years, DBS opened doors I never imagined. From meeting celebrities, modeling at the Mindanao Beauty Expo, and promoting brands like Hair Food Co. and Prosource, to unforgettable adventures like running in the Color Run Manila, attending Big Bad Wolf’s VIP Opening Day, and of course, DFAT (Davao Food Appreciation Tour). Who can forget DFAT?

But the most unforgettable experience was being chosen to join the maiden Davao-Bangkok direct flight with my daughter. It was the plot twist of 2024…unexpected, a pleasant surprise that I will cherish forever.

Apart from all this, DBS taught me invaluable lessons. I learned discipline not just in writing, but in how I present myself online. I became mindful of what I post, careful not to engage in online conflicts or share irrelevant negativity. I understood the importance of upholding the organization’s reputation through responsible behavior.

Despite being older than most members, I enjoy every moment spent with the group. I am happy to see new faces and fresh talents join each year, ensuring DBS continues to thrive as the premier blogging organization in Davao Region.

Today, as I reflect on my journey from private diary entries to public inspiration, I am grateful. Grateful for the experiences, the lessons, and the community. I may not have started as a real blogger, but DBS made me one, and I am proud to say, I am a certified member of DBS.
