This February, we’ve run down the best rom-com films that touched our DBS members. These rom-com films have made us laugh, cry, giddy, afraid, or perhaps hope for a wonderful future love.

So how can you tell which rom-com movies are the best? Well, that depends on your experience, on which films touched you the most. Whether you’re single, heartbroken, or in a relationship, these rom-coms give you different kinds of perspective when it comes to love and all the other elements of the concept of love and being in love.

So, without further ado, here are the best rom-com films which some DBS members recommend. We hope you consider them in your next movie night.

I Fine… Thank You… Love You

I Fine..Thank you..I Love You is one of my favorite Thai rom-com movies. The story is all about an English tutor and his student who wanted to learn English to win back his ex’s heart, who left America. But, the two of them fell for each other. It’s a heartwarming movie about acceptance, moving on, and unconditional love.

Narinig Mo Na Ba Ang L8est?

Narinig Mo Na Ba Ang L8test is a lighthearted and interesting look at the advertising industry. It centers on Popoy and Gina and how the gossips about them shape their personal and professional relationships.

The pair up of Aga Muhlach and Joyce Jimenez is cute and works well for this movie. Their chemistry is perfect for the story.

The film is light-hearted, cute, and kilig but not as shallow as it seems to be. Watch it on iWanTFC.

The Proposal

I can watch The Proposal everyday. The partnership of Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds is one of a kind. Both are hot, funny, and charming. It was a fun movie for me. Betty White was my favorite character. I wish she’s my grandmother.

Ramone strip dancing to “Relax” by Frankie Goes To Hollywood was the best part. Second would be when Sandra tried an old wedding dress, and Betty White tried to find her boobs. Hilarious!

Love Letter

While going over her deceased fiance’s old things, Hiroko finds his old address from high school and decided to write to it just for its sake. To her utter shock, however, she gets a reply from a woman who turned out to be her fiance’s high school classmate and namesake, Itsuki. Hiroko discovers more about her elusive late fiance through her.

Love Letter is a rom-com film that I’m not sure if Davaoeños have heard of or will ever hear, so I’m recommending it. It’s not your typical rom-com because of its unique plot. Its excellent screenplay, great acting, and superb direction and cinematography add up to its heartwarming and poignant factor. Watching it will be a different kind of experience for you.

How to be Single

Since the most celebrated day of this love month is upon us, I highly recommend “How to be Single.” No, it’s not your typical girl meets boy and fell in love typical story that we ought to know. It’s a movie that is close to my heart ever since I watched it on the big screen because it showed different kinds of love. First, a love that is not dependent on another person. Second, that it is okay to be open about the many possibilities of love. Third, that love is a fleeting moment; catch it while you can. And lastly, a love on rediscovering one’s self.

I won’t put so much into details since I don’t want to spoil you, but one thing’s for sure, this rom-com movie will showcase to you different kinds of love and being single in general (duh). I’ll leave you with one of the striking words that are embedded in my head till now by one of the main characters: “The thing about being single is, you should cherish it. Because, in a week, or a lifetime, of being alone, you may only get one moment. One moment, when you’re not tied up in a relationship with anyone. A parent, a pet, a sibling, a friend. One moment, when you stand on your own. Really, truly single. And then… It’s gone.” Enjoy the movie! Happy love month ?

Love, Rosie

Love, Rosie is the number one romantic-comedy I’d definitely recommend. Aside from the beauty of Lily Collins and the charm of Sam Claflin, they just have the greatest chemistry in this movie. They connected with each other so much.

It is a roller-coaster of emotions that’s so interesting to watch and has a realistic story as well.

Kita-Kita

Kita-Kita has a simple storyline, but it’s authentic, well-crafted, and heartwarming. It captured the usual Pinoy taste of romantic comedy but more engaging and endearing. Not to mention, the cinematography is superb, featuring the beautiful spots and hues of Hokkaido, Japan.

While Kita-Kita is sure to give you a worthwhile cute, fun, and love journey to experience, the plot twist is truly heartbreaking. This is really something you must watch since it’s not your usual local rom-com movie.

Crazy Little Thing Called Love

Crazy Little Thing Called Love is the first Thai rom-com I’ve watched. It brought me back to those days when I was just daydreaming that I’m with my crush. That feeling. That crazy little thing. It’s a feel-good rom-com, plus the side characters were all hilarious to watch.

Once

Is love fleeting? Is love fixed? Can you love more than one person at the same time? What if you find the “one,” but either of you is attached?

Once, like other “unexpected love”-themed rom-com films, is about two strangers forming a deep connection and are being drawn to each other in their own little bubble. But outside their bubble lies the real world where they’re either far from each other or in committed relationships. This type of rom-com is undeniably the most poignant and heartbreaking one because the leads have developed a forbidden but special relationship that only comes once in a lifetime.

If you’re in the mood for anti-romcoms that will make you cry or unhappy, watch Once. Runner-ups for this type of rom-com are Kung Mangarap Ka’t Magising, Lost in Translation, In the Mood for Love, and Hiroshima, Mon Amour.
