President Benigno S. Aquino III has signed Republic Act No. 10175, also know as Cybercrime Prevention Act on September 12, 2012.
Under this new law, the following offenses are punishable:
- Offenses against the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of computer data and systems:
- Illegal access
- Illegal interception
- Data Interference
- System Interference
- Misuse of devices
- Cyber-squatting
- Computer-related Offenses:
- Computer-related Forgery
- Computer-related Fraud
- Computer-related Identity Theft
- Content-related Offenses:
- Cybersex
- Child Pornography
- Unsolicited Commercial Communications
- Libel
Any person found guilty will face imprisonment and fines ranging from P50,000 to P1M, depending on the offense. The said Act has an appropriation of PHP50,000,000.00 (Fifty Million) annually.
